Two Men Arrested For Theft Of Motor Vehicle

The Police have arrested two men, both aged 20, for their suspected involvement in a case of theft of motor vehicle.

On 25 August 2024 at about 12.15pm, the Police were alerted to a case of theft of motor vehicle at the multi-storey carpark located at Block 670 Edgefield Plains.

Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from Police cameras, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division established the identities of the two men and arrested them on 27 August 2024. Preliminary investigations revealed that one of the men had found a misplaced vehicle transponder key near the carpark. He randomly tested the transponder key on vehicles parked nearby before unlocking the victim's car and allegedly drove it off for his own use. The stolen car was subsequently recovered.

One of the men will be charged in court on 29 August 2024 with the offence of abetment by instigation to commit theft of a motor vehicle, while the other is assisting with police investigations. The offence of abetment by instigation to commit theft of a motor vehicle under Section 379A read with Section 109 of the Penal Code 1871 carries an imprisonment term of up to seven years and a fine.
