Cameron University offers Workforce Recruitment Program to students and alumni with disabilities

For the second year, Cameron University has joined the Workforce Recruitment Program (WRP), a recruitment and referral program managed by the U.S. Department of Labor and the U.S. Department of Defense. The program connects federal and private-sector employers nationwide with college students and recent graduates with disabilities seeking to demonstrate their abilities in the workplace through summer internships or permanent jobs. For many alumni, WRP has served as the first step to a successful, long-term federal career.

Current CU students and alumni who graduated after April 1, 2022, are eligible to apply. Registration, which requires a resume and a college transcript, can be completed at https://www.wrp.gov. The deadline to apply is Tuesday, October 15. Candidates must be U.S. citizens who are eligible for the federal Schedule A Hiring Authority, a non-competitive hiring process used by federal agencies to hire persons with disabilities.

Once a student or recent alumnus applies, a representative from the U.S. Department of Labor will contact CU's program coordinator, Vicki Henson. Henson will then facilitate a virtual appointment for the applicant to meet with personnel from the Department of Labor. During the appointment, applicants will gain interviewing experience, explore government career options, learn about internship or long-term job opportunities at federal agencies, and more.

For more information about WPR, contact Vicki Henson at (580) 581-2301 or [email protected].
