Title: "Pushing Against Ignorance: A Personal Perspective on Information Technology and the Transformation of Healthcare"
Abstract: Medical informatics is a rebellion against the sub-optimal epistemic habits of healthcare. Through the development and implementation of information technologies, medical informatics seeks to improve these epistemic habits and thus improve health outcomes. Drawing upon my own medical history and experience as a researcher, I will explore some of the concrete ways informatics has transformed healthcare. With this historical perspective, I will suggest ways in which we might fruitfully think about the transformation potentials of the current generation of data-driven AI tools.
