Reclamation announces $3.3M in WaterSMART Small-Scale Water Efficiency grants for 36 projects

DENVER - The Bureau of Reclamation has selected 36 projects to receive a total of $3.3 million in federal funding to enhance water efficiency across the Western United States. The funding, provided through the Small-Scale Water Efficiency Projects program, will support initiatives such as the installation of flow measurement or automation systems, canal lining to reduce seepage, and other similar projects that aim to improve water management on a smaller scale.

"As stewards of vital water resources, it is our responsibility to ensure that every drop is used efficiently," said Bureau of Reclamation Chief Engineer David Raff. "These investments, while focused on smaller-scale projects, have a lasting impact on our ability to conserve water, protect ecosystems, and support the communities that depend on these critical resources."

The Bureau of Reclamation is now accepting applications for the next Small-Scale Water Efficiency Projects program funding opportunity, with a deadline of January 14, 2025.

Reclamation provides cost share funding the Small-Scale Water Efficiency Projects to irrigation and water districts, Tribes, states and other entities with water or power delivery authority for small water efficiency improvements, prioritizing projects that have been identified through previous planning efforts.

Small-Scale Water Efficiency Projects are part of the WaterSMART Program. It aims to improve water conservation and sustainability, helping water resource managers make sound decisions about water use. The WaterSMART Program identifies strategies to ensure this generation, and future ones, will have enough clean water for drinking, economic activities, recreation and ecosystem health.
