Initial Release August 4, 2024:

Marrero - On Sunday, August 4, 2024, around 5:00 am, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop B were notified of a single-vehicle crash on US 90B near Gaudet Drive. The crash ultimately claimed the life of the passenger, whose identity is being withheld pending notification to next of kin.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2001 Honda Civic was traveling east on the upper level of US 90B near Gaudet Drive. For reasons still under investigation, the driver lost control of the Honda and ran off the left side of the roadway, crashing into the guardrail. The Honda continued over the guardrail and fell to the lower level of US 90B near Gaudet Drive. The unrestrained front passenger was ejected and died on the scene. The driver was transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries. A routine toxicology sample was collected and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

Troopers want to remind the public that although not all crashes are survivable, wearing your seatbelt drastically decreases your chance of injury or death during a crash. Additionally, distracted and inattentive driving continues to be a leading cause of crashes in our state. Taking simple precautions like wearing a seatbelt, following all traffic laws, and adhering to speed limits increases safety on the road.
