Carmy and Sydney (played on The Bear by NYU grad Ayo Edebiri) may be fictional characters, but their struggles reflect service industry stress that is very real.
That's why NYU's Center for Counseling and Community Wellbeing began offering free counseling-supported by the nonprofit Southern Smoke Foundation for food and beverage workers-to give the restaurant community the mental health support they need.
A. Jordan Wright, a clinical associate professor at Steinhardt, and graduate students supervised by New York State licensed mental health professionals provide 20 free sessions per client-and offer continued care at a low cost.
