Welcome Back Days 2024 set for Aug. 16 – 23

The University of New Mexico's Welcome Back Days are returning this year to kick off the 2024 fall semester. UNM's Student Activities Center hosts these events for new and returning students to check out what the campus has to offer.

Friday Night Live

Friday, Aug. 16 / 7-10 p.m. / Student Union Building

Join hundreds of students at the SUB for karaoke, a DJ, Henna Tattoos, laser tag, photo booths, and hear from UNM sports teams and student organizations.

Class Crawl

Sunday, Aug. 18 / After First Year Convocation / Student Union Building North Mall

Don't be lost on your first day of classes! New students can stop by the SUB North Mall, print a copy of their class schedule, and take a personalized campus tour.

Movie on the Field

Sunday, Aug. 18 / 8 p.m. / Johnson Field

Students are invited to grab a blanket and catch the movie IF starring Ryan Reynolds at 8 p.m. on Johnson Field. A second showing will also be held Aug. 21 at 6 p.m. in the SUB Theater.

President's Ice Cream Social & Department Information Day

Monday, Aug. 19 / 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. / Duck Pond

Students are invited to meet UNM President Stokes and other university leaders while enjoying free ice cream. Information booths will be set up for students to get important information from UNM schools and departments about campus programs and resources from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. near the Duck Pond. Live music will also be held from 12:00 p.m. to 1 p.m.

Safety, Health, Wellness and Recreation Day

Tuesday, Aug. 20 / 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. / Duck Pond and SUB Mall

Students will get the chance to experience safety demos, recreational activities, and healthy living alternatives at booths from the Safety, Health, Wellness, and Recreation departments at the Duck Pond. Free watermelon will be up for grabs at noon sponsored by UNM Children's Campus and live music will be played from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.

Welcome Back Days / President's Ice Cream Social 2023

UNM Communities Day

Wednesday, Aug. 21 / 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. / Duck Pond

Students will learn more about the university's ethnic, women's, veteran, and LGBTQ centers and other culturally based programs, departments, and student organizations at the Duck Pond. Starting at noon, Pepsi products and green chile stew will be served until gone, with a live performance from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.

North Campus Welcome Back Day

Wednesday, Aug. 21 / 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. / Lawn southeast of Domenici Center

Students enjoyed warm, gooey Dion's pizza as part of Welcome Back Days 2018.

Students are asked to stop by the courtyard outside Fitz Hall to check out information booths from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. while enjoying free watermelon and Pepsi products.

Student Organization Day

Thursday, Aug. 22 / 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. / Duck Pond

Students can meet with ASUNM Student Government leaders and learn how to get involved in the more than 350 student organizations on campus. Free Pepsi and Dion's pizza will be served starting at noon until gone with live music.

Campus Employment and Community Service Day

Friday, Aug. 23 / 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. / Duck Pond

Students looking for a campus job can speak with university departments hiring for work-study and student employment positions. Community organizations will be recruiting volunteers for their worthwhile events and causes. Alumni Relations and Alumni Association will sponsor and serve free donuts at 9 a.m. until gone. Free Pepsi products will be served over the noon hour.
