Man Charged After Fleeing Crash that Critically Injured Pedestrian

Michael D. Williams, 54, is charged with vehicular assault by recklessness, leaving the scene of an accident involving injury, and driving on a revoked license for Monday's 9:30 a.m. hit and run crash involving a pedestrian at 1505 Porter Road.

The preliminary investigation shows that Williams was turning left onto Porter Road from Berkshire Place Apartments in his Nissan Armada when he lost control, rotated 180 degrees, causing the SUV to jump the sidewalk where the pedestrian was struck and thrown into the roadway. The pedestrian, a 54-year-old Nashville man, was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with critical injuries.

Home surveillance video from a nearby residence showed Williams accelerating to the point of losing control prior to the crash. The roadway was wet at the time of the collision. Williams fled north on Porter Road. A witness followed Williams to a residence on Riverside Drive where he was taken into custody. He is being held in lieu of $35,000 bond.
