IUP Family Weekend Offering Variety of Events to Welcome Families

Indiana University of Pennsylvania and the Indiana community will welcome hundreds of families for the 2024 Family Weekend celebration on September 27 and 28.

The weekend's programming is designed to appeal to all ages.

Weekend events begin on September 27 with a jazz recital featuring music faculty member Laura Ferguson at 7:00 p.m. in Sutton Hall 's Gorell Recital Hall. It is free and open to the community.

The Alumni Legacy Breakfast, introduced in 2018 and sponsored by the IUP Office of Alumni and Friends, recognizes families who have parents or grandparents who are IUP graduates and who have a son/daughter or grandson/granddaughter currently attending IUP. It will be held September 28 at 8:30 a.m. at the Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex. Close to 250 families have preregistered for the event.

Families are encouraged to check in and register on September 28 in the Performing Arts Center's Fisher Auditorium from 10:00 to 10:30 a.m., with welcome remarks and a keynote speaker from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m.

Events continue with an academic welcome event on the first floor of IUP's Stapleton Library and a scavenger hunt in the Oak Grove from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., sponsored by IUP's Haven Project. Stapleton Library is hosting a "Library Discovery Experience" from noon to 1:00 p.m. with interactive games and experiences.

IUP crafts and games will be offered from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the Folger Student Center. Events conclude with a Gavas Beat Concert in the Hadley Union Building at 6:00 p.m., free and open to the community, and family night bingo in the Folger Student Center from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., sponsored by the Office of Student Wellness and Engagement and BACCHUS.

Two home athletic events are scheduled for September 28: field hockey versus Millersville at 11:00 a.m. and IUP's Hall of Fame football game against Clarion University of Pennsylvania at 4:00 p.m. Tickets are required for the football game.

The IUP University Museum, located on the first floor of Sutton Hall, is hosting "From the Desk of the Architect," which explores the process of turning blueprints into buildings and celebrates artistic architectural elements that beautify and enrich everyday lives.

The Museum is open from noon to 4:00 p.m. on Saturdays; admission is free, and the museum is open to the community.

Parking on campus, except for reserved spots and handicapped parking, is free and open after 5:00 p.m. and on weekends. Reserved spots in the Parking Garage, located off Oakland Avenue, are open to visitors after 5:00 p.m. and on weekends.
