MPD Investigating Fatal Shooting in Southeast

The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting in Southeast.

On Thursday, July 4, 2024, at approximately 8:46 p.m., members of the United States Park Police were flagged down in the 1500 block of Anacostia Drive, Southeast, for the report of a shooting. Officers located a man in the park area suffering from gunshot wounds. DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene, and after finding no signs consistent with life, the man was pronounced dead on scene.

The victim has been identified as 46-year-old Donald Hawkins of Northeast.

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for a homicide committed in the District of Columbia.
