Police are renewing their appeal for information as an investigation continues into an aggravated break and enter at Mullumbimby in 2023.

About 10.30pm on Thursday 23 November 2023, police were called to a home on Dalley Street, Mullumbimby, following reports of a break and enter.

At the scene, police were told that two men broke into the house before confronting the 78-year-old male resident, demanding money.

The resident was subsequently assaulted by the men with a bat and a knife, resulting in serious facial and hand injuries.

The two men ransacked the home before fleeing with several watches, car keys, and DVDs.

NSW Ambulance paramedics attended and rendered assistance to the man before he was taken to hospital for further treatment.

Police from Tweed/Byron Police District attended and established a crime scene which was forensically examined.

While officers have conducted extensive inquiries since that night, no one has been charged over the incident.

As inquiries continue, detectives have now released CCTV footage of a white utility seen in the area near the time of the incident.

Police wish to speak with the driver of the utility or anyone able to identify the vehicle and its occupants.

Tweed/Byron Police District Crime Manager, Detective Inspector Matt Zimmer, hoped the appeal would lead to more information.

"This is a particularly disturbing crime, and we believe someone in the community can point us in the direction of those responsible," Det Insp Zimmer said.

"We urge anyone with information, no matter how insignificant you think it might be, to come forward and speak with police."

As inquiries continue, police ask anyone with information to contact Tweed/Byron Detectives or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information is treated in strict confidence. The public is reminded not to report information via NSW Police social media pages.
