San Marcos celebrates the grand opening of its first bike park

Earlier today, the City of San Marcos, along with Mayor Rebecca Jones, hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the grand opening of the City's first bike park located at 1587 Linda Vista Drive, the southeast corner of Bradley Park.

Opening a bike park in San Marcos has been a longstanding request from the biking community and was made possible through critical partnerships with local biking organizations. The San Diego Mountain Biking Association, Friends of San Marcos Parks and Recreation, and the San Marcos community provided important input on Bradley Bike Park, advocating for additional bike related amenities.

"The opening of Bradley Bike Park is in direct response to public input and emphasizes our effort to enhance recreational activities in San Marcos to encourage community members to participate in healthy physical adventures," said Mayor Rebecca Jones. "This new park will foster a community where riders and spectators of all ages and their families can come together to enjoy a special experience in the City."

The project received funding from several organizations including the California State Department of Parks and Recreation Prop 68 Per Capita grant, County of San Diego District 5 Neighborhood Reinvestment Program grant, grants from Friends of San Marcos Parks and Recreation and donations from the San Diego Mountain Biking Association.

"Thanks to partnerships between the City, local community members, bike organizations and the state, we have the opportunity to shift gears in our recreation activities and offer something unique to North County. Recreation amenities like our new bike park encourage our community members and our visitors to continue discovering the beauty of San Marcos," shared Mayor Jones.

The 3.4-acre Bradley Bike Park will include a variety of bike amenities for riders of all ages and experience levels including five jump lines ranging from beginner to advanced and a pump track - a specialized designed circuit of rollers, banked turns and features that riders navigate by "pumping" instead of pedaling to generate momentum through body movements.

"The San Diego Mountain Biking Association is thrilled at the opening of this amazing new amenity! The community has needed something like this for some time and we applaud the City of San Marcos on their accomplishment of building a world-class bike park," said Susie Murphy, Executive Director of the San Diego Mountain Biking Association.

At the event, attendees were provided professional rider demonstrations showcasing the park's jumps and tracks and open riding sessions to try the new bike park features. Local bike shop vendors were also in attendance to share information about their services, demo bikes for newcomers and offer attendees a chance to participate in their bike giveaway.

The Bradley Bike Park is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to sunset and closed on Mondays. For more information, please visit the City's parks and recreation webpage.
