One fish, two fish, The Florida Aquarium moves TPA's Red fish, then Blue fish!

As construction crews make progress refreshing the Red and Blue Baggage Claim areas, travelers may notice that something other than ceiling tiles and light fixtures are missing.

A team from The Florida Aquarium removed the fish from the aquatic exhibit from the Red Side in early July, and will return mid-August to relocate the fish on the Blue Side. The Florida Aquarium has maintained the two permanent exhibits at Tampa International Airport's baggage claim areas since 1998, housing 19 different species of fish in each habitat. Angelfish, butterflyfish, surgeonfish and damselfish are just a few of the nearly 50 different animals that have been on display for passengers for more than 25 years.

These sea creatures have received the same care as the Aquarium's onsite collection and have been fed daily. Their exhibit has also received routine care including cleaning, filter maintenance and scuba dives every other week.

As TPA makes quick progress to renovate the baggage claim areas, construction has moved closer to their habitats. To ensure the safety and well-being of these animals, TPA and the Aquarium closely coordinated the careful relocation.

Conversations about returning the fish or bringing new fish to these habitats are in the works. As the baggage claim renovation project nears completion, stay up-to-date on the status of this exhibit's return by following TPA's social media for the latest information.
