Job Summary

This position is in the 911 Emergency Operations Division in the Office of Unified Communications (OUC). The incumbent will serve as an Assistant Watch Commander supervising a rotating 12-hour shift of Telecommunications Equipment Operators, and Dispatchers on a rotating shift and will ensure the safety, orderly, and expeditious movement of police, fire, and emergency medical services (EMS) units to various locations throughout the District of Columbia pertaining to emergency and non-emergency situations.

Licensure/Certification

Medical Priority Dispatch System, Emergency Medical Dispatch, American Heart Association, Basic first aid/cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). The incumbent must maintain all required certifications while employed.

Other Significant Facts

Tour of Duty: This position is designated as essential and the incumbent that occupies this position will be required to report to work or stay at work during a declared emergency or any other time as designated by the Mayor or his/her designee. This facility operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and the incumbent will be required to work a flexible and/or rotating 12-hour shifts. Shifts could be altered and/or extended at any time with notice. The incumbent must be able to work all shifts, holidays, and weekends; mandatory overtime may be required.

Position Designation: This position has been designated as safety - sensitive. Therefore, the incumbent of this position will be subject to enhanced suitability screening pursuant to Chapter 4 of DC Personnel Regulations, Suitability and as such, incumbents of this position shall be subject to criminal background checks, background investigations, and mandatory drug and alcohol testing, as applicable.
