INDems Statement on Dr. Terry Goodin Being Chosen by Jennifer McCormick as Her Running Mate

June 24, 2024

INDIANAPOLIS - Democratic gubernatorial nominee Jennifer McCormick today named former state representative and House Democratic leader Dr. Terry Goodin to be her running mate and the next lieutenant governor for the great state of Indiana.

"Terry Goodin is a life-long public servant and has both the experience and the heart to serve Hoosiers as the next Lieutenant Governor of Indiana," said Jennifer McCormick in her release. "Terry understands that to govern effectively for all Hoosiers, we must restore civility, common sense, and bipartisanship to the Statehouse. With 24 years of experience as a public school superintendent and 20 years as a member of the Indiana General Assembly, he knows how to lead. Terry's recent service as State Director for Rural Development with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) demonstrates his knowledge and passion for rural Indiana. I am proud to bring Terry's credentials, skills, and passion to this ticket to win in November."

"I am truly honored and humbled to have been chosen by Jennifer to run as her Lieutenant Governor candidate," said Terry Goodin in a release. "It is time to get our Hoosier State back on the right track and Jennifer McCormick is the right person at the right time to get this done. I will work closely as her partner to make Indiana a better place to live, work, and raise a family."

Goodin served 20 years in the Indiana General Assembly representing his home of Scott County, and surrounding areas in Southern Indiana between 2000 and 2020. Away from the legislature, Dr. Goodin served as superintendent of Crothersville Community Schools for 24 years. He lives with his wife on the family farm in Austin, IN, raising beef cattle.

"Throughout his service to our state, Terry has been an energetic advocate for educators, students, workers, farmers, unions, seniors, and more," said Indiana Democratic Party Chair Mike Schmuhl. "He has the experience as a public servant with broad connections to deliver for Hoosiers. A homegrown product of a farm family in Southern Indiana, Terry's expertise in agriculture, public education, and the legislative process in the General Assembly is formidable.

This team has the ability to build a bigger Hoosier economy with more jobs, demand more accountability and transparency from state lawmakers, fully fund our local public schools, stand up for American rights and freedoms, and protect Hoosier taxpayers from ongoing waste and abuse. Along with our nominee, Jennifer McCormick, Terry will be a fighter for progress for all families and workers in our state. Over time, he has felt how the critical debates on rights and personal freedoms have shifted in Indiana and across the country. Terry understands the disastrous impact that Dobbs and the Indiana abortion ban has had on our state.

Hoosier Democrats are the party of progress and we must stand united against the danger and extremism coming from Mike Braun, Micah Beckwith, Jim Banks, Todd Rokita, and the current Indiana GOP. Jennifer and Terry can be the team Indiana needs to get back to common sense policy, and away from the endless race to the bottom under one-party Republican control."
