Treasurer Russell Statement on President Biden's Decision to Not Seek Reelection

Connecticut Treasurer Erick Russell released the following statement on Sunday following President Joe Biden's announcement that he will not seek reelection:

"It's not surprising that President Biden is concluding his time in elected office with a selfless act of public service. Throughout his career, he has consistently put the needs of the American people, particularly working families, above the politics of the moment. He has led with dignity, principle, and patriotism. Like millions across the nation, I am deeply grateful for his service.

"President Biden's career proves that you don't have to agree with everyone around you all of the time to find common ground and move the country forward. At a time when our politics have pulled people further apart, that is a lesson we need to carry on as the next generation of leaders assumes the incredible responsibility of shaping a future for America that seeks to better the lives of everyone, not just those who agree with you.

"Few leaders have had the transformative impact of President Biden. His work as a United States Senator, Vice President, and President has made Americans safer, more prosperous, and better prepared to meet the challenges of an uncertain future. He has been a relentless champion for workers, a vocal advocate for equality, and an effective policymaker across decades in government. The nation is stronger, fairer, and more prosperous because of his contributions."
