Statement: U.S. Conference of Mayors on President Biden’s Decision to Not Seek Re-Election

Washington, DC-Below is a statement by U.S. Conference of Mayors President Columbus (OH) Mayor Andrew Ginther on President Biden's announcement today that he will not seek re-election.

"Over the past three and a half years, President Joe Biden has been an incredible ally and advocate for America's mayors. When he assumed office in January of 2021, American cities were hurting, and mayors were on the frontlines navigating through an unprecedented global crisis. From day one, President Biden never wavered in his commitment to mayors. He worked hand in hand with us to deliver some of the most consequential legislation for cities. The American Rescue Plan, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the Inflation Reduction Act, the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, and the CHIPS and Science Act were historic investments that continue to strengthen communities across the country.

"We are grateful that when we needed someone to champion American cities, this president was there for us. It is with deep appreciation that the nation's mayors thank President Biden for his leadership, partnership and abiding friendship."
