Prior Lecompte Chief of Police Arrested for Malfeasance in Office

Alexandria- In August 2023, the Lecompte Police Department (LPD) requested the Louisiana State Police Criminal Investigation Unit (LSP CIU) to investigate missing evidence from the LPD evidence storage facility. LPD personnel discovered that guns and narcotics were missing and/or improperly logged.

As a result of the investigation and information obtained, it was revealed that prior LPD Chief of Police Joseph Thompson had removed multiple pieces of evidence (guns) and relocated them to his residence.

On September 27, 2024, LSP CIU obtained a warrant for Thompson's arrest for Malfeasance in Office (5 counts). On September 30, 2024, Thompson was arrested for the outstanding warrant and booked at the Rapides Parish Sheriff's Jail.

The Louisiana State Police will serve as the lead investigative agency. The investigation remains active and ongoing. There is no further information available at this time.

The Louisiana State Police online reporting system is also available to the public through a convenient and secure reporting form that is submitted to the appropriate investigators.
