Kent Island: A Summer in Images

With each summer comes a new opportunity for a unique learning experience as a handful of students heads to Kent Island-Bowdoin College's remote, 200-acre island in the Bay of Fundy, used mostly for ecological research.

Under the directorship of Assistant Professor of Biology Patricia ("Patty") Jones, around a dozen students spent nine weeks at the Bowdoin College Scientific Station on Kent Island this summer pursuing a variety of research projects.

From monitoring the habits of migratory birds to the study of tidal patterns, from analyzing plants and vegetation to learning about island stewardship and conservation, these summer fellows gain valuable time in the field collecting and interpreting data. Each trip also includes one or two artists-in-residence, who focus on creating works of art or literature that engage with and communicate the science at the station.
