Free learning series 'Junior Historians' featured at North Dakota Heritage Center & State Museum

BISMARCK, N.D. - Children entering kindergarten through fifth grade this fall are invited to the free interactive learning series "Junior Historians" at the North Dakota Heritage Center & State Museum in Bismarck. Children and their accompanying adult(s) are asked to meet at the west entrance information desk. 

The goal of the "Junior Historians" program is to cultivate an interest and passion for North Dakota's history through weekly themes. In these 30-minute programs participants will listen to stories, participate in activities and discussions, and learn in a fun and engaging way.

Aug. 7 Weather Mapping, 11 a.m. What will the weather be like tomorrow? Look at historical weather maps, understand the symbols on them, and learn how to predict the weather.

Aug. 14 Fizzy Dinosaurs, 11 a.m. What do turtles, dinosaurs, and birds have in common? They all lay eggs. Hatch your own dinosaur, and document your findings.

Aug. 21 Birds of North Dakota, 4 p.m. Birds of a feather flock together. Learn about our fine feathered friends of North Dakota, and make a bird feeder.

Aug. 28 Horses, 4 p.m. They were your moving truck, tractor, and so much more. Learn about the important role of horses to early peoples on the Plains, and decorate your own horse.
