CONCORD UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF NURSING ANNOUNCES FALL WHITE COAT CEREMONY

ATHENS, WV - The College of Nursing at Concord University is pleased to announce the next White Coat Ceremony on Thursday, September 5 at 6 PM. The ceremony will be held in the Wilkes Family Chapel at University Point on the Concord campus.

The White Coat Ceremony symbolizes the transition into patient care for nursing students. The ceremony will take place during the second semester of the nursing program when the students are beginning their clinical studies in various healthcare organizations.

The very first White Coat Ceremony was held in 1993 at Columbia University, where Dr. Arnold P. Gold was a world-renowned pediatric neurologist and champion of human-centered care. According to the Arthur P. Gold Foundation website, "Dr. Gold believed that reciting the Hippocratic Oath at graduation was far too late. He envisioned the White Coat Ceremony as a ritual to emphasize the importance of compassion in patient care at the start of medical training. After the first ceremony at Columbia, the Gold Foundation, led by Dr. Gold's wife and the nonprofit's first CEO, Dr. Sandra Gold, spread the White Coat Ceremony around the world."

From Dr. Michele Holt, Concord's Director of Nursing, "We take immense pride in our nursing students and their unwavering commitment to reaching their goals. We eagerly anticipate this next phase of the nursing program, where students will gain invaluable hands-on experience and deeper insights into patient care."
