HONOLULU, Aug. 26, 2024 - Hawaiian Electric crews will upgrade utility equipment this week in the following areas, impacting traffic from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. as follows:

  • Wednesday, Aug. 28, and Friday, Aug. 30, Makaloa Street (Ala Moana)
Crews will replace equipment at the Makaloa Substation, closing a section of the westbound lane of Makaloa Street between Amana and Keeaumoku streets with traffic detoured to Amana. Metered stalls in the work zone also will be restricted.
  • Thursday, Aug. 29, N. School Street (Kalihi)
Crews will perform emergency work to replace a tie switch on N. School Street, closing the two westbound lanes between Leilani Street and Gulick Avenue. Traffic will be contraflowed in the eastbound lanes, allowing one lane of traffic in each direction and special duty police will provide onsite traffic control. Electronic message boards will be posted to alert motorists of the planned work.
  • As part of pre- and post-work, Haupu Place at N. School will be closed to vehicular traffic (except emergency vehicles) on Wednesday, Aug. 28, and Friday, Aug. 30, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Affected residents have been notified.

Safety signs and traffic cones will alert the public of the lane closures and flagmen will direct motorists who are advised to use alternate routes or expect traffic delays.
