Liberty Alerts Markleeville, Woodfords, Desolation Hotel (Hope Valley), Topaz, Coleville, and Walker Area Customers of Potential Public Safety Power Shutoff Due to Extreme Weather Conditions that Increase the Risk of a Potential Wildfire.

Tahoe, California - Liberty Utilities (Liberty) has notified its Markleeville, Woodfords, Desolation Hotel (Hope Valley), Topaz, Coleville, and Walker customers that it may implement a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) on Friday, November 22, 2024 at 5:00 a.m. to red uce wildfire risk and promote the safety of the community during the anticipated extreme weather conditions. If a PSPS is implemented, it could last more than 24 hours before power can be safely restored. Please see the impacted areas as detailed in the map attached.

The State of California grants authority to Liberty to implement a PSPS in high-risk areas when extreme weather conditions present a clear danger to public safety.

Customers are encouraged to visit one of our two Community Resource Centers on Friday, November 22 from 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m. if they are unable to secure necessary alternative power. The Woodfords Community Center, 96 Washoe Blvd., Markleeville, CA and Walker Community Center, 442 Mule Deer Drive, Walker, CA will remain open throughout the PSPS.

"We understand power outages are never convenient for customers, and we appreciate the community's cooperation as we consider these measures to keep the area safe from wildfires," said Greg Sorensen, President, West Region.

The following are proactive measures you can take to keep you and your family safe:

  • Create an emergency kit that includes, but is not limited to, flashlights, first aid supplies and local maps. Consult Ready.gov for additional emergency kit necessities.
  • Plan for medical needs that may be impacted by a power shutoff, including medications that need refrigeration or devices that require power. Please register any energy-related medical needs by calling 1-800-782-2506.
  • Store nonperishable foods and water to support your family for a minimum of 48 hours.
  • For additional information and real-time updates, please visit libertyutilities.com or follow us on Facebook (@LibertyUtilitiesLT) and X (@LibertyUtil_CA).

If a PSPS is implemented, Liberty will activate the community resource centers listed above to provide customers with essential resources and an opportunity to speak directly with customer care representatives throughout the event.
