The Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) is proud to announce that Superintendent Dr. Debra Duardo has been appointed as the Region I Director for the Association of Latino Administrators and Superintendents (ALAS). Dr. Duardo will represent the states of California, Hawaii and Alaska in this prestigious role.

Dr. Duardo succeeds LACOE Deputy Superintendent, Dr. Ruth Pérez, who held the Region I Director seat for six years. Dr. Pérez will now transition to the ALAS Executive Committee, serving as Secretary, further contributing her leadership and expertise to the organization's national agenda.

The Association of Latino Administrators and Superintendents is a premier national organization dedicated to the advancement of Latino educators and leaders in education. As Region I Director, Dr. Duardo will collaborate with other esteemed superintendents from across the nation, advocating for equity, excellence, and the continued development of Latino leadership in education.

"This role offers a significant opportunity to represent and advocate for Latino leaders in education across our diverse states," said Dr. Duardo. "I am honored to be appointed to the ALAS Board and committed to upholding the values of ALAS and working alongside my colleagues to advance our shared mission of educational excellence for all."

Dr. Duardo is a passionate supporter of the California Association of Latino Superintendents and Administrators (CALSA), the California affiliate for ALAS. Her appointment is a testament to her exemplary leadership and commitment to fostering inclusive, high-quality educational opportunities for all students.

Dr. Duardo will be officially sworn in at the ALAS annual conference, which will take place in October in Portland, Oregon. This event will bring together educational leaders from across the country to share insights, strategies, and best practices for enhancing the educational experiences of Latino students.

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Duardo on this significant achievement. Her leadership continues to inspire and make a meaningful impact on our community, and we are confident that she will represent us with distinction in her new role.
