UW Choirs to Present ‘WyoSING!’ Oct. 4

The University of Wyoming Department of Music choirs will present "WyoSING!" Friday, Oct. 4, at 7:30 p.m. in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall.

Tickets are $14 for the public, $10 for senior citizens and $6 for students. A nominal processing fee will be charged for each ticket. To purchase tickets, visit the Performing Arts box office, call (307) 766-6666 or go online at www.tix.com/ticket-sales/uwyo/6984.

The concert will feature the UW Collegiate Chorale, Bel Canto, the Singing Statesmen, the Laramie Civic Chorus, 7220 Blues, the Happy Jacks and the Laramie Children's Chorus.

The Laramie Civic Chorus, conducted by O'Neil Jones, a visiting assistant professor at UW, and graduate conductor Emily Peterson, will perform the world premiere of "Cantate Domino" by Jonathan White and "Hold Fast to Dreams" by Susan LaBarr.

7220 Blues, directed by UW undergraduate student Brynley LaChance, of Casper, will perform "Words" by Anders Edenroth.

The Singing Statesmen, conducted by Assistant Professor Brian Murray and graduate conductor Michael Lechner, will perform "We Are the Music Makers" by Reginal Wright and "In Taberna" from "Carmina Burana" by Carl Orff.

The Happy Jacks will perform "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" by George Weiss, Hugo Peretti and Luigi Creatore, arranged by Kirby Shaw. They also will perform "Make Them Hear You" by Stephen Flaherty, arranged by Shaw.

The Laramie Children's Chorus, directed by Murray, Beth Kean and Allison Murray, will perform "My Country 'Tis of Thee" and "Over My Head," arranged by Emily Crocker.

Bel Canto, conducted by Jones and Peterson, will perform "Flight Song" by Kim Arnesen. The group also will perform "Trois Beaux Oiseaux du Paradis" by Maurice Ravel, edited by Jones. The performance will feature mezzo-soprano Magdalena Wór, an assistant professor.

The Collegiate Chorale, conducted by Murray and Peterson, will perform "Chantez" from "Chansons des Bois d'Amaranthe" by Jules Massenet; "Dieu! Qu'il la fait bon regarder" from "Trois Chansons d'Orleans" by Claude Debussy; and "La Vie en Rose" by Louiguy, arranged by Paris Rutherford.

The concert will close with Jones conducting the UW combined choirs in "O Fortuna" from "Carmina Burana."

The choirs are accompanied by graduate student pianists Francine Cancian, Lechner, Isabela Araújo and Alisson Garcia.
