Oklahoma State University announces Fulbright US Student Awards for 2024-25

Oklahoma State University has announced that Jaime E. Gutiérrez and Ellie K. Scheaffer have received Fulbright U.S. Student Program awards to serve as Fulbright English teaching assistants in Spain and Tajikistan respectively for the 2024-25 academic year from the U.S. Department of State and the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board.

Gutiérrez, secondary education student from the College of Education and Human Sciences, will travel to Spain to support local English instructors. Global Studies graduate student Ellie Scheaffer will also serve as an English teaching assistant in Tajikistan supporting English instruction in the classroom. Both Fulbright Students will act as cultural ambassadors of the U.S. by sharing their own stories while engaging with the people and cultures of their host countries.

"These Fulbright Students will spend the next year away from home, immersing themselves in other cultures while sharing their own stories. It's certainly not easy to go abroad to an unfamiliar country for nearly a year, and yet these students accept that challenge in stride," said Austin Hayes, Fulbright Program adviser and scholar liaison in OSU Global. "I am incredibly proud of OSU's Fulbright students who showcase not only their scholarship, but also their resilience by applying for these Fulbright grants."

More than 2,000 Fulbright U.S. students - recent college graduates, graduate students and early career professionals from all backgrounds - pursue graduate study, conduct research or teach English in schools abroad each year.

They are recognized alongside more than 800 faculty, researchers, administrators and established professionals who teach or conduct research in affiliation with institutes abroad annually through the Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program. Fulbrighters form ongoing research collaborations and lay the groundwork for future partnerships between institutions.

Since 1946, the Fulbright Program has provided over 400,000 talented and accomplished students, scholars, teachers, artists and professionals of all backgrounds with the opportunity to study, teach and conduct research abroad. Fulbrighters exchange ideas, build people-to-people connections and work to address complex global challenges. Notable Fulbrighters include 62 Nobel Laureates, 89 Pulitzer Prize winners, 80 MacArthur Fellows, 41 heads of state or government, and thousands of leaders across the private, public and nonprofit sectors.
