New Judge Appointed to U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of California

The Judges of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit have appointed J. Barrett Marumas the next bankruptcy judge on the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of California. Judge Marum took the oath of office during achambers ceremony on August 30, 2024.

Judge Marum graduated with a B.A. from the University of California at Berkeley with high honors. In 2003, he received his J.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles, and was a member of the Order of the Coif. Upon graduation from law school, Judge Marum served as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Thomas J. Whelan, U.S. District Court Judge for the Southern District of California.

Prior to joining the bench, Judge Marum was a Partner in the Finance and Bankruptcy and Business Trial Practice Groups at Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton LLP located in the San Diego and Silicon Valley offices. Judge Marum practiced in the areas of bankruptcy law and commercial litigation.
