Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Assiniboine Avenue

Winnipeg, MB- At 2:27 p.m. on Sunday, July 7, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service crews responded to reports of fire at a high-rise apartment building in the 300 block of Assiniboine Avenue.

Upon arrival to the scene, crews saw smoke and located the fire inside the building. They launched an offensive attack and quickly put the fire out. It was declared under control at 2:54 p.m.

Some residents self-evacuated before crews arrived on scene. Firefighters also helped evacuate some residents from their suites, while others were able to shelter in place.

Two people were assessed by paramedics on scene but did not require transport to hospital. No other injuries were reported.

Damage estimates are not available at this time.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
