At Diageo, we serve millions of people with our products and experiences and we want everyone to feel invited and included. This International Day of Persons with Disabilities, we're celebrating some of our work that supports people with disabilities, whether it's as an employer, as a partner, or through our brands.
We're committed to creating an inclusive workplace for all, including a culture where everyone can thrive, their unique talents contribute, and they feel valued. Because we believe a business that includes everyone is a better business.
One way we do this is through our Business and Employee Resource Groups. We Are All Able, PRISM, and our newest group PossAbilities create spaces for people with disabilities to connect with others, share experiences, and raise awareness of disability across Diageo. And they're growing quickly. PRISM, Diageo's Neurodiverse Employee Resource Group, now has over 100 members since forming just over a year ago.
Today, we hear from members of PRISM and We Are All Able. As well as sharing their stories, they explain what we can all be doing to help ensure that an accessible workplace is the norm and disability doesn't limit participation.
As someone born with a physical disability, being part of an employee resource group supporting disability inclusion is deeply personal and incredibly important to me.
Contributing to our culture of disability inclusion through my involvement with We Are All Able is a privilege and hugely rewarding - it gives me a strong sense of purpose to know that our work is helping break down barriers and foster understanding. It has allowed me to connect with so many like-minded individuals who have helped me embrace my own identify, and find greater confidence and pride in who I am.
My advice is not to let fear of getting it wrong hold us back - intention is at the core of championing disability inclusion and being intentional, open and committed to understanding is the most powerful stride we can take."
Prism was born just over a year ago with the ambition to champion neuro-inclusion and cater for those who are Neurodivergent, their families and allies. We are focused on supporting Neurodivergent colleagues to feel seen, empowered and represented at work; connecting colleagues together to learn and support each other, and championing the inclusion of Neurodiversity adjustments across Diageo.
No two people with the same diagnosis will present the same. That's why education about Neurodiversity and its associated conditions is so important. Understanding how it can present and the implications of how it can affect individuals differently can make a really big impact; reducing stress and making it easier for someone to ask for help."
Why is disability inclusivity important for Diageo?
To shape a more diverse and successful long-term business and society requires action, and Inclusion and Diversity is a critical enabler in our Spirit of Progress ESG action plan. We believe that everybody should feel supported in the environment they work in, and our culture understands, respects and reflects their uniqueness. Our market-leading policies and practises are shaped by, and for, our people and allow us to continue to create a workplace where everyone is cared for.
We continue to update, embed and scale our Disability Inclusion Guidelines, launched in 2022, covering topics including physical and digital accessibility and recruitment, as well as guidance on disability-inclusive language to help teams have positive conversations. The Guidelines include examples of how we're supporting people with disabilities in our teams, with partners and communities we work with, and through our brands, and are available in 15 languages.
Why it's just the beginning and next steps
We're proud of the work we're doing but we know there's more we can do. To make significant changes in the industry and beyond we need to continue our work, so we drive positive change for the disabled community.
Around the world
From workplace inclusivity to iconic brand experiences, we're committed to making sure everyone feels included in the celebrations that our products are a part of. For the last three years, we've marked International Day of Persons with Disabilities by lighting up our sites and offices purple across the world.
