Undersecretary of State Henryka Mościcka Dendys meets with US Ambassador at Large for Global Criminal Justice

The interlocutors underlined similar opinions of Poland and the US on Russian aggression against Ukraine and said that nations have inalienable right to shape their future at their own will. They shared information and opinions on both countries' engagement in the ongoing proceedings by means of existing legal institutions such as domestic and international courts and tribunals. The two officials also spoke about the international community's efforts to set up new mechanisms.

- Perpetrators of international crimes against Ukraine or committed on its territory, including war crimes and the crime of aggression, should be brought to justice. It is a matter of credibility of the international community, which is currently discussing the establishment of a special tribunal on Ukraine - said Deputy Minister Mościcka-Dendys. She also said that from Warsaw's point of view, such processes are a prerequisite for lasting peace. Ambassador Van Schaack stressed the importance of ensuring justice in the transition period following the end of the war, which should be based on the principle of a democratic state ruled by law and should legitimise Ukrainian authorities, both on central and local level.
