Smoke in the air from neighboring Brazoria County fire

Residents may witness or smell smoke on the island and it is stemming from a grass fire in Brazoria County.

The Brazoria County Fire Marshal's Office reported that the county was battling a large wildfire on Sunday at County Road 227. Residents were asked to avoid that area of Brazoria County.

The island is not at risk from the wildfire, however, residents may see or smell smoke.
