2024 Election Notice

At its regular meeting on August 21, 2024, the Aliso Viejo City Council voted to cancel the November 5, 2024, General Municipal Election for District 3.

The candidate filing period for the November election opened on July 15 and closed August 9. At the close of the filing period, only the incumbent Richard Hurt had filed nomination papers qualifying him to run for office in District 3.

Since Hurt does not face any challengers for the District 3 Council seat, California Elections Code 10229 allows the City Council to appoint Hurt to a new four-year term, saving approximately $13,000 that would have been spent holding an uncontested election.

Hurt is currently serving on the City Council in an at-large capacity. When he assumes his new term, Hurt will represent District 3. Hurt will be sworn into office during the regular City Council reorganization meeting in December.

The General Municipal Election will still take place as planned for Districts 1 and 5, and of course, the 2024 Presidential General Election will happen for all districts. For more information on the City's election, visit avcity.org/elections.
