Rep. Upchurch Applauds Governor DeWine's Announcement of More Than $52M for Demolition and Brownfield Remediation Projects

COLUMBUS - State Rep. Terrence Upchurch (D-Cleveland) today commends Governor Mike DeWine and Department of Development Director Lydia Mihalik for the more than $52M in support of the Ohio Brownfield Remediation Program and Building Demolition and Site Revitalization Program, including $2.9M in grants allocated to Rep. Upchurch's district.

"Those long session days, lengthy budget meetings and lists of project requests are always worth it when we can see funding come back to our community. I am glad we were able to bring home much needed funding for District 20 and look forward to bringing home even more in the next budget cycle," said Rep. Upchurch.

The two projects awarded $2.9M in grants under the Ohio Brownfield Remediation Program are:

  • $1,286,604 for the West Side Market
  • $251,517 for the African Town Plaza

Under these programs, businesses and projects across the state received grants to reconstruct their buildings due to failing structures, which otherwise would have caused a monetary hardship on the business. This unique economic opportunity was a collaboration between the governor's office and The Ohio General Assembly's diligent work to secure funding in the last operating budget.
