Advancing Sustainable Beekeeping: APO Leading the Path to Enhanced Productivity and Export Growth in Bangladesh

The APO Secretariat, NPO Bangladesh, and Shikkha Shastha Unnayan Karzakram (SHISUK) jointly organized a face-to-face training on Sustainable Beekeeping, Marketing, and Quality Control from 16-20 September 2024 in Bogura, Bangladesh. This training, which was organized under the Technical Expert Services (TES) program, aimed at enhancing the capacity of NPO Bangladesh and stakeholders of the beekeeping sector in Bangladesh. The training, which attracted 24 participants, emphasized sustainable beekeeping practices, quality control, and modernization opportunities.

One resource person from Turkiye delivered lectures on modern beekeeping techniques, including pest and disease control, hive tracking systems, and innovations in honey quality control. They also conducted field visits on honey extraction, storage, and processing. Participants were also introduced to modern pesticides, chemicals, and reagents with complimentary samples from the resource person.

Participants found the training highly relevant and well-organized, praising the expertise of the resource person and effectiveness of field visits to Kafi Honey Bee Farm, Sherpur, Bogura and Polly Honey Processing Unit, Rural Development Academy (RDA), Sadar, Bogura. They also recommended follow-up training, more interaction among beekeepers, and additional sessions on organic honey production, ethical use of chemicals, and entrepreneurship to improve sustainability and scalability. The event aligned with the APO Vision 2025 goal of sustained productivity growth and contributed to the key result area quality of the workforce.
