Foreign Ministry statement on the anniversary of the martyrdom of Iranian diplomats and journalist in Mazar-e-Sharif Afghanistan

Twenty-six years ago on August 8 1998 after the fall of the city of Mazar-e-Sharif to the hands of the Taliban eight diplomats and one journalist of the Islamic Republic of Iran were unjustly martyred in Iran's Consulate General in Mazar-e-Sharif in violation of all diplomatic principles international laws and humanitarian and moral obligations.

Twenty-six years ago on August 8, 1998, after the fall of the city of Mazar-e-Sharif to the hands of the Taliban, eight diplomats and one journalist of the Islamic Republic of Iran were unjustly martyred in Iran's Consulate General in Mazar-e-Sharif, in violation of all diplomatic principles, international laws and humanitarian and moral obligations.

United Nations Security Council Resolution 1267 declared the attack on the Islamic Republic of Iran's Consulate General in Mazar-e-Sharif and the killing of Iranian diplomats and journalist a flagrant violation of international law.

The Islamic Republic of Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs reserves the right to pursue various aspects of the tragic terrorist move in order to answer to the noble nation of Iran and the grieving families, and once again asks the caretaker government of Afghanistan to announce the results of its investigations on the perpetrators of the crime and apply appropriate punishment for them.

The Islamic Republic of Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs prays to Almighty God to elevate the ranks of the honorable martyrs of Mazar-e-Sharif, Nasser Rigi, Noorollah Norouzi, Karim Heydarian, Rashid Paryav Fallah, Heydar Ali Bagheri, Mohammad Ali Qiyasi, Majid Nouri Niarki, Mohammad Nasser Nasseri and Mahmoud Saremi.
