EUTM MOZ J4 Branch Logistic Support

The European Union Training Mission in Mozambique (EUTM Mozambique) has been established with the aim of training 11 QRF (Quick Reaction Forces) from Mozambican Armed Forces in order to fight terrorism in the northern regions of the country. An essential component of this operation is the J4 section, responsible for logistics and real life support. J4 ensures that all aspects related to the supply and maintenance of resources are covered, allowing the troops to focus on their training tasks.

The J4 branch of the EUTM Mozambique operation is organized into two main teams: one in Maputo and another in Chimoio. The team in Maputo is composed of five people, including Portuguese and Spanish personnel. This team is responsible for real life support, coordinating ground and air transportation, managing accommodation and food, as well as supervising infrastructure and procurement. In Maputo, the key functions include planning and executing all necessary logistical activities for the operation's success.

In Chimoio, the team consists of three people, from Portuguese and Serbian nationalities. This team focuses on providing logistical support in Chimoio, solving problems related to accommodation, food, transportation, and general support. Both teams work in an integrated manner to ensure that all logistical needs of the EUTM Mozambique mission are efficiently covered.

The most important tasks of the J4 branch in the EUTM Mozambique operation encompass a wide range of critical responsibilities for the mission's success. Among the main tasks are coordinating ground and air transportation, ensuring that troops and supplies reach their destinations safely and on time. J4 is also responsible for vehicle maintenance, managing both repairs and preventive maintenance in coordination with the rental car company. Another key task is managing accommodation and food, ensuring that EUTM personnel have access to adequate facilities and quality food. Additionally, J4 oversees the procurement of goods and services necessary for the operation, ensuring smooth and efficient logistics. And last but not least, J4 must manage and supervise the construction of new facilities or Quick Impact Project (QIP) for EUTM-MOZ. All these tasks are fundamental to maintaining the troops' operability and morale, allowing them to focus on their primary mission of training and supporting Mozambican forces.

The new European Union Military Assistance Mission (EUMAM) Mozambique mission starting in September will focus on providing continuous and specialized military assistance to Mozambican forces. The transition to this new phase requires meticulous planning and robust logistics to ensure a smooth and effective transfer of responsibilities. Logistics will be key during this period of change, ensuring that all necessary resources are available and that operations continue without interruption.

The J4 section has proven to be a vital component in the success of the EUTM Mozambique mission, and its experience and efficiency will be even more crucial in the transition to EUMAM Mozambique. The good work and professionalism of the J4 members guarantee the logistical support needed to fulfill their mission, from transportation and vehicle maintenance to the management of accommodation and supplies. J4 has consolidated itself as a key piece for the operation's success, demonstrating that well-managed logistics are fundamental to any military mission. J4's ability to adapt and overcome logistical challenges will be vital in the future EUMAM Mozambique mission, ensuring the continuity and effectiveness of the EU's military assistance efforts in the region.

Logistics is the thankless art that no one remembers when everything goes well, but everyone notices when something goes wrong. Logistical support is a vital service to others, reflecting a deep commitment to the mission's success and the well-being of comrades. The professionals of J4 work tirelessly behind the scenes, ensuring that every detail is covered, allowing the forces on the ground to concentrate on their critical tasks.
