Syracuse, NY- On Friday, September 6, 2024, at 10:21 p.m., Syracuse Firefighters were alerted by the Onondaga County 911 Center to a reported fire at 835 Livingston Ave, on the City's East Side. Firefighters from Station 10, on E Genesee Street. The initial arriving companies started to investigate the two-and-a-half-story wood frame structure. There was a large volume of smoke on the second floor. Incident Command immediately transmitted a signal '99', indicating a working fire.

As teams of firefighters moved hoses to the second floor, where the smoke was the thickest, other teams of firefighters started systematically searching the entire building for victims and additional fire. Crews were able to quickly get water on the fire, which was in a second-floor bedroom, and stop it from spreading. As other crews moved hoses to different parts of the structure to check for any fire spread, search teams were able to confirm that all of the occupants were able to escape prior to the Fire Department's arrival. The fire was declared out after approximately 10 minutes. Crews remained on the scene for over an hour, clearing smoke from the building, cleaning up, and assisting the fire investigator.

The fire occurred in a second-floor bedroom and was contained to that bedroom. That bedroom suffered fire, smoke, and water damage, while the rest of the second floor suffered smoke damage. Five occupants were displaced by the fire and are staying with friends. Syracuse Fire Investigators are still investigating the cause of the fire. There were no injuries reported to civilians or to Fire Department personnel.

A total of 37 Fire Department Personnel responded to this incident, including command and support staff. Syracuse Police, American Medical Response, National Grid, and the American Red Cross also responded to the scene. We thank our partners at the 911 Center, SPD, AMR, National Grid, and the Red Cross.
