Tom Barrett: I “Did Not Support” Protecting Reproductive Rights, But That’s Not “An Issue Now”

After spending months trying to cover up his anti-abortion extremism, Tom Barrett is admitting that he doesn't care if he is out-of-touch with Michigan women and families.

In a recent radio interview, Barrett said that he "did not support " Michiganders codifying reproductive rights in the state constitution and that he has "a hard time believing it remains as intense of an issue now."

Unfortunately for Barrett, his history of claiming his anti-abortion record is not an issue is almost as long as the record itself. After calling himself "100% PRO-LIFE - NO EXCEPTIONS," saying Michigan's constitutional amendment protecting reproductive rights was "pretty extreme," and supporting the state's 1931 abortion ban without exceptions, Barrett claimed his views wouldn't be an issue because his "opponent is not a woman."

DCCC Spokesperson Aidan Johnson:
"Michiganders didn't protect their fundamental reproductive rights just for extremists like Tom Barrett to try and overturn them at the federal level. Barrett is seriously out-of-touch if he thinks that voters won't go to the polls to defend their freedoms against his anti-abortion agenda this November."
