Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month At Community Event

Free Celebration Will Be Held At The East Las Vegas Community Center

Everyone is invited to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month at the El Grito event Saturday, Sept. 14, from noon to 4 p.m. at the East Las Vegas Community Center, 250 N. Eastern Ave.

Ward 3 Councilwoman Olivia Díaz, Cónsul de México Patricia Cortés Guadarrama and Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Sheriff Kevin McMahill are scheduled to attend the free event. Attendees may enjoy a community resource fair along with musical performances on the bandstand.

Featured entertainment includes performances by the award-winning Mariachi Plata from the College of Southern Nevada, Mariachi Los Jaguares from Desert Pines High School, Foundation to Assist Young Musicians Mariachi, Grupo Folklorico Libertad, Ballet Folklorico del Sol of Del Sol High School, Ballet Folklorico Alborada of Sunrise High School and Metro Police Officer Jennifer Barron.

A highlight of the event will be the reenactment of the historic Cry of Dolores by Consul General Guadarrama, accompanied by the ringing of the bell to commemorate Father Miguel Hidalgo's 1810 call for Mexican independence. This annual tradition offers the community a special opportunity to unite in celebrating Mexican heritage and culture.

Free refreshments will be served while supplies last. Additional parking will be available at the nearby Rafael Rivera Community Center, located at 2900 Stewart Ave., and a free shuttle will be running from the lot to the East Las Vegas Community Center.
