Life Ring Installation Ceremony in Memory of Teen-Hero Aden Perry

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
JULY 25, 2024

DAVIE, Fla. - The Town of Davie, in partnership with the Aden Perry Good Samaritan and Scholarship Fund, held a Life Ring Installation Ceremony on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at Veteran's Park, 5750 Southwest 39th Street. The ceremony kicked off the installation of life rings near bodies of water across Town parks in honor of Aden Spencer Perry.

Teen-hero Aden Perry drowned at 17-years-old while attempting to save another teen driver of a car that entered a lake in Sunrise, Florida. Shortly after, Aden's parents, Sarah and Alan Perry founded the Aden Perry Hero Life Initiative to help educate community members on the usage of Coast Guard-regulated rescue rings attached to a rope to help anyone struggling during a water emergency.

The life rings pay homage to Aden's memory and equip people with a tool that could rescue lives without needing to enter the water themselves. All rings feature a photo of Aden and a "Hero Message" that says: "A hero is a person of distinguished courage and ability, admired for their brave deeds and noble qualities in spite of overwhelming obstacles."

Teams comprised of Davie Fire Rescue, Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts and Public Work employees worked together to install 10 life rings at the following locations:

  • Veterans Park - 5750 Southwest 39th Street
  • Sunny Lake Bird Sanctuary - 5300 Griffin Road
  • Wolf Lake Park - 5400 Southwest 76th Avenue
    • One nearby the restroom and pavilion, one on the southeast corner of the lake, one of the east side of the lake, and one on the west side of the lake.
  • Silver Lakes Rotary Nature Park - 5695 Southwest 52nd Avenue
    • Two on the east side of the park, one in the central side of the park and one in the northwest corner of the park.

Life rings are to be used only for emergencies while waiting for emergency personnel to respond to the scene. If you see someone in the water who needs help, call 9-1-1 immediately. Please note that swimming or wading is not allowed at Town parks.

A recognition of the installation was held at the July 24th Town Council Meeting.
