The District of Columbia Space Grant Consortium has funded several projects and events on campus, including this Telescope Night in the fall of 2023.

Congratulations to Dr. Daniel Lundberg on receiving a consortium subaward from American University/NASA

Dr. Daniel Lundberg, Director of the School of Science, Technology, Accessibility, Mathematics, and Public Health, is pleased to announce that Gallaudet will continue to take part in the District of Columbia Space Grant Consortium, an ongoing collaboration of area colleges and universities led by American University. This year, the consortium subaward will provide $20,000 for interns working in Gallaudet science laboratories with Biology and Chemistry faculty, as well as in the Tinkerlab with faculty from the Art and Media Design Program. In addition, $4,500 has been granted for Tinkerlab supplies, such as 3D printer filament. "The Tinkerlab needs to purchase materials that are consumed every year, so this is a critical source of funding," he says.

The consortium subaward also provides $4,500 to Model Secondary School for the Deaf's physical computing and robotics class to purchase parts, supplies, tools, software, and electronics. It is critical to support STEM education at our neighboring secondary school, Lundberg says.

Congratulations to Gregoire Youbara on receiving funding from the U.S. Department of State and the International Research and Exchanges Board

An ongoing project to receive funding is the ASL Pre-Institute Program, which is part of the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders. Led by World Languages and Cultures Instructor Gregoire Youbara, it received $8,823 from the U.S. Department of State and the International Research and Exchanges Board. With this award, Gallaudet will provide an introduction in American Deaf culture to incoming fellows who are deaf, deafblind, or hard of hearing.

Congratulations to Dr. P. Kushalnagar and Dr. William Ennis on receiving a subaward from the University of Kentucky/NIGMS

The Office of Research received a subaward in the amount of $50,000 from the University of Kentucky (under cooperative agreement award U24GM146576 from the National Institutes of General Medical Sciences at the National Institutes of Health), to develop a bilingual ASL/English grant management training module. At completion, this module will be used to train Gallaudet employees who receive sponsored awards. All personnel who provide grant management support can also take the module training. Ennis noted, "We are excited to align Gallaudet's bilingual mission with our work in grant administration and making that information accessible to all."

Congratulations to Davina Kwong Yu on securing a grant from the D.C. Department of Energy and Environment

If you spot an electric bus driving around campus, thank Davina Kwong Yu, Executive Director of Campus Services, who has secured $254,751 from the D.C. Department of Energy and Environment for a fleet electrification initiative. In addition to purchasing a bus and a charging station, the funds will go toward providing technical training for the Transportation Department.
