Congressman Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement after voting in favor of H.R. 82 and against H.R. 5342:
"The WEP and the GPO negatively affect more than 2 million retired public servants across the country, including more than 100,000 here in Massachusetts, and our teachers, firefighters, and police officers deserve relief. Today, I voted in favor of delivering on that relief and I will continue working until these retirees have the peace of mind and security that comes with a dignified retirement. At the same time, Republicans want to send the country backward and have been relentless in their calls for cutting Social Security benefits, including the cuts they tried to advance today in H.R. 5342. Democrats are fighting like hell against any and every attack, no matter the size.
"After a lifetime of work, the American people deserve their earned benefits."
