FIJI AND SPAIN AIM TO ENHANCE DIPLOMATIC...

Promoting development assistance through strengthened multilateral and bilateral relations with the Pacific and international partners, is a major goal of the recently launched Fiji's first Foreign Policy White Paper.

This was expressed by the Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Lenora Qereqeretabua while receiving a farewell call from the Chargé d'affaires at the Embassy of Spain in Fiji, Mr Gaël Sánchez Cano, who is concluding his diplomatic term in Fiji.

Assistant Minister Qereqeretabua reinforced Fiji's positions as provided in the Foreign Policy White Paper and the "Ocean of Peace" Concept that is being led by the Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Sitiveni Rabuka.

At the same time, the Assistant Minister reaffirmed Fiji's commitment to working closely with our development partners in the Pacific to build shared goals of economic prosperity, peace and security, and sustainable development.

In this light, Hon. Qereqeretabua welcomed discussions on progressing cooperation to deepen engagements in issues of mutual interest to Fiji and Spain.

The Assistant Minister extended her appreciation to Mr. Cano for his dedicated service to Fiji and wished him well on his future endevours.

Mr Cano commended Prime Minister Rabuka for the Ocean of Peace concept and reiterated Spain's support for this valuable initiative. He also acknowledged the significance of Fiji's Foreign Policy White Paper, noting the importance of clear and effective direction to progress mutual priorities and shared goals.

He conveyed his heartfelt thanks to the Government and the people of Fiji for their warm hospitality and remain optimistic that the conclusion of the ongoing process will create a new chapter in Fiji and Spain's diplomatic relations.

The meeting concluded with both parties sharing their appreciation for the ongoing cooperation and commitment to elevate our partnership as guided by Fiji's Foreign Policy White Paper.
