A Sèvres Porcelain Garniture bought by Louis XV for Sale

On December 13th and 14th, the Furniture & Works of Art sale will feature more than 400 lots from private European collections with prestigious provenances. The auction will focus on the 18th century, with the last Sèvres porcelain set purchased by King Louis XV in 1773, estimated at €400,000 - 600,000 and exhibited at the Château de Versailles last year, as well as a secretaire a abattant stamped by Jean-François Leleu and estimated at €30,000 - 50,000.

A great Louis XVI commode stamped by Riesener and Weisweiler delivered on August 1st, 1782 for the Controleur General at Versailles will also be offered for sale (est. €60,000 - 80,000). It remained in the Grand Contrôle Hotel in Versailles until 1788 and was than transferred to the apartment of the Secretary of State of the King's Household, the Marquis de Villedeuil, who lived in the Ministers' wing to the north of the château. It was used to furnish the children's bedroom, where it appears in the 1791 inventory.

The Regence period will be represented by a pair of consoles from a major European collection (est. €30,000 - 50,000) and a table of monumental proportions with a richly carved front with trophies and foliage scrolls, from the former collections of the Château de Montmort (est. €60,000 - 80,000).

Finally, a collection of clocks that perfectly illustrate the art of clockmaking and the talent of the best 18th-century bronzemakers will complete the sale's selection. Animal clocks, with elephants (est. €20,000 - 30,000) and dromedaries (est. €20,000 - 30,000), will stand alongside a rare Saint Germain cartel depicting Diana the Huntress (est. €30,000 - 50,000) from the former Cahen d'Anvers collections.
