Rep. Courtney Calls on Speaker Johnson to Reconvene the House to Urgently Deliver Disaster Relief

NORWICH, CT - Today, Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-02) issued the following statement after sending a letter with 62 of his colleagues to Speaker Johnson calling on him to reconvene the U.S. House to pass additional disaster relief funding. On September 25, Courtney also voted to pass the Continuing Resolution which included $20 billion for FEMA's disaster relief fund.

"Yesterday, I sent a letter with dozens of my colleagues to Speaker Johnson urging him to reconvene the US House of Representatives so that we can pass robust disaster relief funding for both FEMA and the Small Business Administration. Whatever reason Speaker Johnson had last week to refuse action by the House has been dwarfed by the magnitude of destruction by Hurricanes Helene and Milton. FEMA's 'burn rate' since the House freed up $20 billion for disaster assistance on September 25 requires immediate supplemental aid. The Speaker needs to show leadership for the sake of communities and first responders who are facing the devastating consequences of these disasters right now."
