Traffic Stop in Mattapan Leads to Recovery of Firearm and Suspect’s Arrest

At about 2:43 AM, on Tuesday, July 2nd, 2024, District B-3 (Mattapan/Dorchester) Officers conducted a traffic stop resulting in the recovery of a firearm and arrest of Trayvon Ricks, 22, of Norwood.

Officers were on a directed patrol near Norfolk St. and Wildwood St. when they observed a vehicle traveling on Norfolk St. with a defective brake light. Officers conducted a traffic stop at 1257 Blue Hill Ave, and contacted the driver, Trayvon Ricks, and his passenger.

An investigation by Officers followed and resulted in the recovery of a firearm located inside a backpack located in the vehicle.

The firearm was determined to be a Tanfoglio .40 caliber handgun, with one (1) large capacity magazine containing fourteen (14) rounds of .40 caliber ammunition.

Trayvon Ricks was arrested and is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court for the charges of Carrying a Firearm Without a License, Carrying a Loaded Firearm, Possession of a Firearm Without an FID Card, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device, and Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended Registration.

Trayvon Ricks was also issued a Mass Uniform Citation for a Defective Brake light and Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended Registration.
