Alameda County residents-especially those who have struggled to find housing due to income level, race, disability, or other protected characteristics-can come to one of a series of community meetings to share experiences and ideas for how to address these challenges.

By attending one of six meetings-including one in Berkeley on September 10-you'll help the County and the City of Berkeley prioritize programs and policies to support fair access to housing.

You can also share input using an online survey, closing September 13.

Come out for a meeting, fill out the survey and help us improve equal access to housing for everyone.

Attend in-person or virtual meetings

At these six meetings, we will share data about the biggest fair housing issues affecting residents and ideas for ways to address these issues. We hope to hear about your experiences with housing as well as your opinions, concerns, and input on this topic.

Efforts to ensure fair access to housing

Your feedback will help set priorities for housing support services in Berkeley and Alameda County.

Where there is the greatest need, such as in accessibility repairs, legal assistance, or support finding affordable units, you may see new or expanded programs to support these needs.

The data, community input, and recommended actions will be compiled in a countywide five-year Analysis of Impediments to Fair Housing Choice report.

Landlords and realtors cannot discriminate based on your race, disability, whether you have children, and other protected characteristics. Learn more about fair housing protections and resources.

The City of Berkeley supports equal access to housing through a variety of programs, such as ensuring rental housing is safe for tenants, providing interest-free loans for low-income seniors and people with disabilities to make necessary repairs, and creating new affordable housing units through the housing trust fund and below market-rate units.

Help inform programs that get us closer to the goal of ensuring people of all racial backgrounds, abilities, and income levels are able to find a place to call home.

Join us at a community meeting or fill out the survey.
