LOCAL NEWS | Upcoming Webinar: Historic Structure Reports: Resources for Stewardship

If you're the owner or manager of a historic structure, the development of a formal Historic Structure Report can be a useful tool for organizing information, assessing significance, developing treatments, and guiding decision-making for its preservation, rehabilitation, and repair. Historic Structure Reports can be prepared for subjects as wide-ranging as industrial facilities, residences, schools, hospitals, churches, lighthouses, museums, visitors centers, military fortifications, government buildings, monuments, and ships. Each historic structure presents unique challenges in terms of understanding its history and significance, evaluating its material and construction, and preparing guidance for its stewardship.

In this complimentary, one-hour webinar, historian and conservator Deborah Slaton and historical architects Mike Ford and Tim Penich will provide an overview of Historic Structure Reports and related studies, the benefits to having one, and the process through which the reports are developed. The presentation will include case studies illustrating the significance and utility of Historic Structure Reports.

By the end of the webinar, you will be able to:

  • Identify the types of resources for which Historic Structure Reports can be prepared
  • Differentiate between Historic Structure Reports and related studies for historic resources
  • Describe the process to prepare a Historic Structure Report
  • Explain how a Historic Structure Report is used to guide planning for the stewardship of historic resources

There will be plenty of time for your questions during the presentation. Attendees are eligible for one American Institute of Architects (AIA) Learning Unit.
