NOPD Announces Preliminary Crime Statistics for June 23-29, 2024

The following is a weekly report of citywide crime statistics compiled by the NOPD Analytics Unit for the period of June 23-29, 2024.

Notable arrests made

During the listed week, the NOPD also made the following notable arrest(s):

  • On June 27, members of the NOPD's Violent Offender Warrant Squad and the U.S. Marshals arrested Donnell Beard (black male, DOB: 01-04-2000) in Dekalb County, Ga., in connection with the NOPD's investigation of a homicide that occurred on May 23, 2024, in the 800 block of Canal Street. Beard faces extradition back to New Orleans to face three counts of attempted murder and one count of illegal use of a dangerous weapon.
  • On June 24, two suspects were arrested in connection with NOPD's investigation of a homicide that occurred on June 22, 2024, in the 600 block of Bourbon Street. Mia Lindsey (black female, DOB: 03-25-2002) was arrested on one count of second-degree murder, while Maraiah Campbell (black female, DOB: 05-18-1998) was arrested on one count of accessory after the fact to second-degree murder. Both Lindsey and Campbell were located by police in Columbia, Miss., and faced extradition to New Orleans to face the listed charges. These arrests were made through a joint effort from multiple law enforcement agencies including the NOPD, Louisiana State Police, and FBI New Orleans joint Violent Crime Task Force and Violent Crime Abatement Investigation Team; Columbia (Miss.) Police Department; and the Marion County (Miss.) Sheriff's Office.

Gun arrests (arrests made under LA RS 14:95 and sub-items)

Year to date, the NOPD has made 300 arrests for illegal possession of a firearm. This is a 35-percent decrease compared to 462 arrests made during the same period in 2023.
