RCMP issue 59 tickets during traffic enforcement operation

13 vehicles have been towed, and 59 tickets have been issued following a traffic enforcement operation in the Oromocto region.

On July 10, 2024, the New Brunswick RCMP's Tactical Traffic Enforcement Unit, and Provincial Motor Vehicle Inspectors from the Department of Justice and Public Safety conducted a traffic enforcement operation in the Oromocto area. A total of 34 vehicles were escorted to an inspection station, of which 13 were subsequently deemed unsafe and towed. 15 vehicles received a compliance order.

During the operation, ad total of 59 traffic violations were issued under the New Brunswick Motor Vehicle Act which included 12 tickets for speeding, nine tickets for drivers not wearing a seatbelt, 14 tickets for not having a current inspection certificate, and six tickets for using a handheld electronic device.

In addition, two individuals were charged for driving with a suspended license and one for an outstanding warrant.

"While we promote safe driving behaviours year-round, these enforcement operations are an effective way to send this message to drivers across the province, said Sgt. Ghislain David with the Tactical Traffic Enforcement Unit. The goal of these efforts is to improve road safety, educate motorists about the rules, and to reduce serious injuries and fatal collisions."

The public can also assist in keeping dangerous drivers off the road by reporting them to police. If you see a dangerous or a suspected impaired driver, call 911. Your description of the driver, vehicle, licence plate number and direction of travel can assist police in making New Brunswick roads safer.
